Samsung Claims Exynos 2400’s GPU, the Xclipse 940 Outperforms A17 Pro in Graphical Performance
After skipping a flagship SoC release for 2023, Samsung announced he Exynos 2400 earlier this month, and while most of the processor performance numbers have been okayish, Samsung is particularly confident that GPU on this SoC, the Xclipse 940 is better than any of it’s competitors. This also includes Apple Silicon’s A17 Pro, used in the flagship iPhone 15 Pros.
Xclipse 940’s Early Benchmark Scores Fall Short of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s Adreno 740
This claim may just be a marketing gimmick, since some of the earlier performance numbers did point out that the Xclipse 940 even lacked behind last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2‘s Adreno 740 by a meagre 5.43%. For context, the SD 8 Gen 2 does surpass the A17 Pro by a fair margin in graphical performance, but it’s difficult to fairly benchmark both of them due to differences in architectures.
Samsung Boldly Claims Exynos 2400’s Xclipse 940 Is the Best Mobile GPU
On the other hand, it is possible that these are simply the early scores for the chipset and Samsung has yet to make the necessary optimizations for the chipset. Samsung LSI’s president, Yong-In Park has made some pretty bold claims and it is when the chipset is officially housed in a device, will we know what it is truly capable of.
I think the ‘Exynos 2400’ will do well because it has superior graphics processing (GPU) performance compared to its competitors in North America and I hope that the Samsung Galaxy S24 series will also be equipped with Exynos.”
Yong-in Park, president of Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Division
Till then, we know that the vanilla variant, and the Plus model for the S24 series will house this chipset in select regions, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be reserved for the higher-end Ultra model. Moreover, since the Exynos 2400 is fabricated on Samsung’s 4nm LPP+ process, which is more efficient than the normal Low Power Plus process, it’ll be interesting to see how the SoC’s efficiency numbers fare against the competition.
This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
