Samsung Is Holding Back RAM Upgrades for the Galaxy S24 Series, Vanilla to Come With 8GB & Ultra with 8/12GB

Samsung next generation of flagship smartphones, the S24 series will apparently push back on memory upgrades. According to multiple sources, the S24 lineup will use 8GB of RAM across the board, with a 12GB option for the Ultra that was available on the S23 Ultra last year too.

Earlier this year, multiple supply chain sources and rumours pointed towards the idea of the vanilla S24 variants using 12GB of RAM, with the Ultra moving to a decent 16GB option. Most of that had to do with the fact that memory semiconductor pricing had seen a sharp decline this year.

Analysts believed that this would lead to a better profit margin for the manufacturers alongside incorporating more memory capacity in the upcoming smartphones for 2024. Samsung however, had other ideas.

Owing to reports of a memory chip market recovery, it seems as if Samsung is willing to play safe with its next lineup of flagship phones. See, the market for memory chips is improving and if Samsung does decide to go with more RAM, it would not only lead to higher costs but would also be risky keeping in mind the future implications.

For one, the pricing could rise this year, prompting Samsung to take a step back the next year with the S25 series. After all, they’ll most probably incorporate the more expensive 3nm SoC alongside a new design.

It seems as by sticking to 8GB of RAM for the S24 series, Samsung has played it safe. However, this could be detrimental to the overall performance as well since early reports have showcased poor memory management with OneUI 6.
