The $400 Nothing Phone (2a) is Expected to Come with Dimensity 7200 & Familiar Cameras
The Nothing Phone (2a) will be the company’s first step into the mid-range segment, set to be revealed early next year at the Mobile World Conference 2024. At the “Nothing to See” event, we may have our first official announcement for the device, alongside a possible early look at the Phone (3).
The Nothing Phone (2a) was earlier tipped to feature the Dimensity 7200, but now more details have emerged for the screen and camera hardware. According to a report from SmartPrix, the Phone (2a) will house a dual-camera horizontal lens layout with a 50MP Samsung S5KGN9, accompanied by a secondary 50MP Samsung S5KJN1.
If the rumors for this camera setup are anything but true, Nothing may actually pull off a great deal of attention for this phone, particularly because of this camera hardware, since it is similar to the ones used in the more expensive and flagship Phone (2).
Apart from that, the phone’s screen is expected to be sized at 6.7 inches with a 120Hz AMOLED panel (model number: rm692h5), manufactured by China’s BOE and Visionox. For the front camera, users might be treated to a 32MP Sony IMX615 sensor with support for 16MP of binned shots. It’s worth noting that this is the same front camera used in the OnePlus 10 and the Nothing Phone (2).
As for the storage, the Phone (2a) may start at 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage since the Phone (2) starts at 8/128. Since the Phone (2a) will be largely similar to the Phone (2a), the only viable explanation for the release of this phone would be for a larger product range and possible adoption. After all, the Phone (2) starts at $560 at the moment, so with the specifications listed above, it’ll be harder for Nothing to beat that price for the value it’s offering.
Availability & Pricing
The Phone (2) was exclusively available in three SKUs — PongEEA (Europe), PongIND (India) and Pong (Global). The Phone (2a) will possibly be available for four different regions — PacmanEEA (Europe), PacmanJPN (Japan), PacmanIND (India) and Pacman (Global). This in itself, points to the idea of wider adoption rather than a full-fledge budget offering.
As for the pricing, rumors are pointing to a $400 release, but with all of the specifications mentioned above, it is hard to see how Nothing would manage a release within this price bracket. The phone would ship with NothingOS 2.5 and would feature a redesigned Glyph Interface.
