Samsung’s Upcoming S24 Series Breaks Record for Pre-Order Sales in Korea

On January 19, Samsung began taking pre-orders for the Galaxy S24 lineup of flagship handsets. Since then, the three variants have sold 1.21 million units, shattering the previous record set by last year’s Galaxy S23 family. Thousands of customers in Samsung’s home market have been early adopters despite the Korean giant’s choice to deliver the Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 variants in various territories this year, resulting in a dual-chipset launch.

Official availability of all Galaxy S24 variants is January 31, however, pre-orders for the new series have already surpassed those of last year’s Galaxy S23. The Galaxy S24 Ultra accounted for 60% of pre-sales, making it the most popular model among the 1.21 million devices that were pre-ordered, according to data supplied by Maeil Business News.

The Galaxy S24 Plus came in second, with 21% of all pre-orders, although we think the figure could have been higher due to the improvements Samsung made to its “middle of the pack” member. The basic Galaxy S24 model made up 19% of the total.

According to the survey, the most popular colour option for the Galaxy S24 Ultra was Titanium Gray, while the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus were followed in order by Marble Gray. This suggests that the new titanium finish on the Galaxy S24 Ultra contributed to its increased popularity.

With Samsung’s new AI-powered capabilities like Generative Edit, Circle to Search, Live Translate, and more, it’s likely that Galaxy AI was a major factor in the unprecedented pre-order volume. Since we are tracking the first few months of sales, a lot can happen, thus Samsung might lose some of its current momentum. Even though there’s still an opportunity for improvement, Samsung can reclaim its position as the world’s leading smartphone producer by exceeding the Galaxy S23 series, which held the pre-order record for 1.09 million devices in the same period.
