Message+ keeps Stopping? Try These Fixes
Message+ may keep stopping mainly due to the issues with the app’s installation or a corrupt cache of Google’s Play Store. Message+ app’s installation issues range from the corrupt cache of the app to the corrupt installation of Message+.
The problem occurs when the Message+ app is launched but crashes or stops repeatedly. The issue is reported on all app-supported platforms like iPhone, Android, macOS, Windows, etc.
The following factors can be easily considered as the main causes for stopping the Message+ app:
- Outdated Message+ App: If the installation of the Message+ app is outdated, then its incompatibility with the device’s OS may cause the stopping issue as the execution of essential app components may be blocked by the OS.
- Corrupt Cache and Data of the Message+ App: Message+ may keep on stopping if its cache or data is corrupt as the app fails to load the corrupt cache/data in this case.
- Corrupt Cache and Data of the Google Play Store: You may encounter the Message+ issue at hand if the cache and data of the Google Play Store are corrupt as it can make the latest Message+ update useless.
- Corrupt Installation of the Message+ App: If the installation of the Message+ app is corrupt, then that may lead to the issue under discussion as well because the app fails to load its essential modules to the device’s memory.
1. Relaunch the Message+ App after Force Stopping it
A temporary glitch of the Message+ app might not launch it and cause its stopping. In this case, relaunching the Message+ app after force-stopping it may clear the issue. Before proceeding, make sure Verizon services are up and running.
- Launch the Android phone Settings and open its Application Manager.
- Now open Message+ and tap on Force Stop.
- Then confirm to force stop the Message+ app and afterward, launch the Message+ app to check if it has started to work properly.
2. Restart Your Device
A temporary glitch in the OS modules of your device might lead to the stopping of the Message+ app and a simple restart of your device may clear the glitch.
- Press/hold the power button of your phone till the phone’s power menu is shown.
- Now select Restart and once restarted, launch the Message+ app to check if it is working fine.
3. Update the Message+ App to the Latest Build
The Message+ app may keep on stopping if it is outdated as it can make the Message+ app incompatible with the device’s OS and may not let the essential app modules execute. Here, updating the Message+ app to the latest build may solve the problem.
- Firstly, force stop the Message+ app (as discussed earlier).
- Launch the Google Play Store and search for Verizon Messages (aka Message+)
- Now open it and tap on Update if an update for the Message+ app is available.
- Then wait till the process completes and afterward, restart your phone.
- Upon restart, launch Message+ to check if it is working fine.
4. Update All Apps on Your Device
If another app on your device is outdated (like an adblocker or antivirus), then its incompatibility with the Message+ app can result in the issue at hand. Here, updating all the apps on your device to the latest build may solve the problem.
- Launch Google Play Store and expand its Menu.
- Now open Manage Apps & Devices.
- Then tap on Update All and wait till the update process completes.
- Once done, restart your phone and upon restart, check if the Message+ app is working fine.
5. Switch Back and Forth the Default Messaging App to Message+
A glitch in the communication modules of your device can also cause the Message+ app to stop. Here, switching back and forth from the default messaging app to the Message+ app may clear the issue.
- Launch the Android phone Settings and switch to its More tab.
- Now open Default Applications or Defaults and select Messages.
- Then select any other app (other than Message+ like Google Messages) and afterward, let the process complete.
- Now restart your phone and upon restart, launch the Message+ app and check if it is working fine.
- Then revert the default Messaging app to the Message+ app and check if its stopping problem is solved.
6. Clear Cache and Data of Google Play Store
You may encounter the Message+ app issue at hand if the cache or data of the Google Play Store is corrupt. In this scenario, clearing the cache and data of the Google Play Store may resolve the Message+ issue. Before proceeding, make sure to note down the Google account’s login information as you may need it to re-setup the Play Store.
- Launch the Android phone Settings and open the Application Manager.
- Now select Google Play Store and tap on Clear Cache.
- Then press on Clear Data and afterward, confirm to clear the data of the Google Play Store.
- Now restart your system and upon restart, launch Google Play Store.
- Then log in using your credentials and afterward, search for Message+ in the Google Play Store.
- Now check if an app update is available, if so, tap on Update and once updated, restart your phone.
- Upon restart, launch the Message+ app and check if it is clear of the stopping issue.
7: Uninstall Updates of the Message+ App
You may encounter the Message+ issue at hand if the latest app update failed to properly apply to the Message+ app or the update is not yet compatible with your device. In this context, uninstalling updates of the Message+ app may clear the problem. Keep in mind that this method may only work on the devices where the Message+ app is a system app.
Through the Application Manager
- Launch the Android phone Settings and tap on its Application Manager.
- Now select the Message+ app and tap on Uninstall Updates (if uninstall is shown, you may tap on 3 vertical ellipses and select Uninstall Updates or try the Google Play Store method).
- Then confirm to uninstall updates and once done, restart your phone.
- Upon restart, launch Message+ and check if it is working fine. If so, then you may disable auto-updatingg of the Message+ app till the problem is reported to be resolved.
Though the Google Play Store
- Launch the Google Play Store and search for Verizon Messages (aka Message+).
- Now open it and tap on Uninstall. In some cases, you may have to tap on three vertical ellipses in the top right and select Uninstall Updates.
- If it asks to uninstall updates and revert the Message+ app to its defaults, then confirm to uninstall the updates of the Message+ app. If it prompts you to uninstall the app, then cancel it.
- Once the Message+ updates are uninstalled, restart your phone and upon restart, launch Message+ to check if it is working normally. If so, you may want to disable the auto-update of the Message+ app till the issue is reported to be resolved.
8: Clear Cache and Data of the Message+ App
The Message+ app might also stop due to its corrupt cache and data as the app fails to load essential components to the device’s memory. In such a case, clearing the cache and data of the Message+ app may solve the problem.
Warning:
Although, usually, clearing the data of the Message+ app does not affect your messages but it can cause unforeseen problems, so, try the step at your own risk and it will be better to back up the messages or switch to another app as the default (till the process completes).
- Launch the Settings of your Android phone and open the Application Manager.
- Now select Message+ and press the Force Stop button.
- Then confirm to Force Stop the Message+ app and open Storage.
- Now tap on the Clear Cache button and restart your phone.
- Upon restart, launch the Message+ app and check if it is operating fine.
- If not, repeat steps 1 to 3 to force stop the app and clear its cache.
- Now, in the Storage settings of the Message+ app, tap on Clear Data.
- Then confirm to clear the Message+ data and afterward, restart your PC.
- Upon restart, launch the Message+ app and check if it is clear of the stopping issue.
9: Reinstall the Message+ App
The Message+ app may keep on stopping if its installation is corrupt as the essential app’s modules may fail to execute. In this context, reinstalling the Message+ app may solve the problem.
Warning:
Proceed at your own risk as uninstalling the Message+ app may cause losing (usually, it does not but can) of your messages, especially, those older than 90 days. You can switch to another app as the default till the below steps are complete.
- Launch the Settings of your Android phone and open its Application Manager.
- Now select Message+ and tap on the Force Stop button.
- Then confirm to Force Stop the Message+ app.
- Now open Storage and tap on Clear Cache.
- Then press Clear Data and afterward, confirm to clear the data of the Message+ app.
- Now hit the back button and press Uninstall.
- Then confirm to uninstall the Message+ app and once done, restart your phone.
- Upon restart, launch Google Play Store and search for Verizon Messages.
- Now open it and tap on Install.
- Then wait till Message+ installs and afterward, open it.
- Now configure it and hopefully, it will be clear of the stopping issue.
If none of the above worked, then launch Contacts and head to a contact with whom you want to chat. Now tap on the text icon, which will launch the chat in Message+ and you can chat with that person. Also, you may reply to the contact through the notifications (without launching Message+ as it can crash).
If that did not work, check if re-syncing the pictures of the contacts clears the error. If the issue persists, you may use another app till the issue resolves or check if using an older version of the Message+ app (strictly not recommended) resolves the issue.
